GBR
Museum is proud to house in two pavilions the personal collection
of Mr. Geronimo B. De Los Reyes, Jr. which covers a wide array of
paintings and model aircrafts he acquired over the years - from
the Wright Brothers' first prototype to the contemporary space shuttle
by NASA.
GBR
Museum offers a unique and captivating presentation of aviation
history. There are over 100 scale models of aircraft on display.
They range from and commercial airliners to space shuttles and rockets.
These accurately manufactured models were handcarved from mahogany
wood and were masterfully painted by Filipino artisans from the
province of Pampanga in Central Luzon. Each plane comes with its
unique colors and markings carefully assigned by each country's
military airforce or commercial company.
During
the First and Second World War, there was a concentrated effort
to attain air supremacy. The super powers of that era, continuously
developed and revolutionized many types of aircraft. This unprecedented
development of new multi-purpose planes with significant improvements
on efficiency and operational cost continue to this day. This eventually
led to a number of significant aircrafts that have forever carved
their niche in the history of World aviation. The museum has on
exhibit some of these renowned and highly sophisticated aircrafts
in scale models and paintings such as the Royal Airforce Spitfire,
Hurricane and British Harrier jets, the United States Airforce F4U
Corsair, P-38 Lightning and the B29 Super Fortress, Luftwaffes's
Messerschmitt, Focke Wulf and Junkers, Japanese Imperial Airforce's
A6M Mitsubishi Zero and E13A Aichi. In addition, there are the more
modern jet fighters from the United States, Russia and France such
as F14, F16, F18, Mig 27, Mig 29 and the Rafale. Finally the scale
model of the fastest commercial aircraft ever built, the Concorde
which can travel at twice the speed of sound or Mach 2.2.
Complimenting the models are the unique airbrushed paintings of
aircrafts in flight in scenes from World War I and II. These paintings
depict in very vivid details air combat during the previous World
Wars. Stan Stokes the very well known painter from Palm Springs,
California, studied the history of aircrafts of many countries.
The visitor will admire Mr. Stokes attention to detail in all his
paintings. As testimony to the artist's prominence , his paintings
are also on display at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington,
D.C., USA. The GBR Museum welcomes all visitors who wish to learn
more of aircrafts in a multitude of uses from its initial stages
of flight in the early 20th century to the 21st century.
