Geronimo Berenguer de los Reyes, Jr.

Geronimo B. de los Reyes, Jr. is the Chairman Emeritus of Gateway Property Holdings, Inc. (GPHI), a company engaged in vertical and horizontal real estate development and is the holding company of Gateway Business Park (GBP), an industrial estate which he built in 1989.

GBP is Cavite’s premier industrial park, nestled in 180 hectares of gentle rolling terrain in Barangay Javalera, General Trias, carefully developed to meet the high technological demands of all types of industries. GBP’s universal appeal and world-standard features have made it the site of choice for 23 multinational and domestic companies engaged in diverse manufacturing endeavors and products such as semi-conductor parts, detergents, etc.

GBP was the first industrial estate to build a centralized industrial waste water treatment plant even when developers were not required to do so. Mr. de los Reyes’ desire to construct this facility was to return clean and processed water to preserve the pristine condition of Halang River where wildlife and fish abound. The river meanders along the towns of Cavite and ends at Manila Bay.

Prior to GBP, Geronimo B. de los Reyes, Jr. was either the proponent or a major partner/shareholder in eleven other corporations he had founded during the last three decades here in the Philippines and abroad, all related to the development and construction of high rise office buildings, condominium offices and apartments.

In 1995, the Geronimo Berenguer de los Reyes, Jr. (GBR) Foundation, Inc. was established to manage the GBRMuseum, where the most extensive 19th and 20th century photographs of old Manila, World War II and other environs in the Philippines are exhibited. He also built the “Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Church” across GBP in 2007 due to his deep devotion to our Blessed Mother Maryand Our Lord Jesus Christ. The church can accommodate 1,200 – 1,500 parishioners.

Geronimo B. de los Reyes, Jr. is involved in numerous apostolates through his GBR Foundation, Inc. which is engaged in promoting education by providing scholarships for urban poor children and supporting faculty development and research studies on the graduate school level through professorial chairs.

Work History

Geronimo B. de los Reyes, Jr. was barely 19 years old in 1958 when he gained employment with the foremost international global air carrier PanAmwhere he worked long, irregular hours with minimum pay. The company recognized his exemplary work and eventually granted him favorable working hours, thereby allowing him to take evening classes to finish his college education at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran where he graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Commerce, major in Finance and Management (Magna Cum Laude).

In his mid-20’s, Geronimo B. de los Reyes, Jr. was invited to join Reynolds (Philippines) Corporation where he had succeeded in his position as Marketing Manager and led the Architectural and Building Products Division in the Philippines. Two years thereafter, he was sent to the headquarters of Reynolds at Richmond, Virginia, USA, for over a year. There he excelled in his studies to further his education in the fields of management, business, manufacturing and marketing of various aluminum product applications of the company. He visited various manufacturing plants of Reynolds and other customers’ plants. While in the U.S. he was offered by Reynolds International the high position of heading the Venezuelan operations as an expatriate. However, he respectfully declined this because of his desire to pursue his career and futureendeavors in the Philippines, a decision that proved most fortunate and fulfilling to him.

The succeeding phase of his professional life after 7 years with Reynolds saw him with a greater sense of mission, much more confident and driven to succeed on his own. A partnership with his three closest colleagues and associates formed the Empire Management Corporation of the Philippines, and simultaneously, he founded his own companies as an entrepreneur-businessman in his late 30’s and early 40’s. His initial ventures included the establishment of prawn farming in aquaculture, fruit farming, and other subsidiary corporations related to the acquisition of land for future development, including construction of the first tallest high-rise condominium apartment building, over 40 floors in the Philippines along Ayala Avenue, Makati City, in the financial district of the country. He also involved himself with other similar projects where he utilized his knowledge either as a Financial and Management consultant or as a major investor in other real estate developments in the Philippines and North America. This is where he had substantially achieved his quest to succeed as an entrepreneur in various endeavors, most notably in the development and construction of high rise buildings.

Geronimo B. de los Reyes, Jr. was born to Geronimo Sr. and Gloria Linares Berenguer de los Reyes on April 16, 1936 at the Philippine General Hospital not far from where he lived with his family along General Luna St. a suburb of Malate. His siblings are Desiderio (+), Benjamin (+), Rodrigo, Teresita and Antonio (+). His great-grandfather, Crisanto Mendoza de los Reyes, was arrested, charged and sentenced for complicity in the Cavite Mutiny of 1872 and exiled to Cartagena, Spain. “El Motin” as the Spaniards called the mutiny then, is now considered the very “FirstInsurrection” against Spanish Colonization and was an inspiration to our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s “El Filibusterismo”. Fathers Gomez, Burgos and Zamora, Philippine martyrs, were likewise found guilty, convicted and garroted as punishment for their complicity.
